How to Stay Focused While Studying: Tips for ADHD

I failed, but you can learn from my mistake! You’ll see me slipping about 1.5 hours into this recorded study session.

Want support with focusing on a specific goal and efficiently completing tasks to achieve that goal? Join me for a virtual session for about 1.5 hours, broken up into 25 minute segments called pomodoros.

Here’s the latest recorded live session. (You will see a timer on the screen… fast forward to that spot, if you’re ready to go.)

Join the community (aka The Village). You will see announcements of upcoming live sessions. You can join me for these sessions in the future. Get support with staying focused so you can complete one task at a time.

Study Hacks for ADHD:

  • Use a timer for shorter periods (i.e., 25 min or less) and focus on one task until that timer goes off
  • Remove distractions (i.e., turn off phone or computer notifications)
  • Use distraction removal tools (i.e., focus mode in Adobe Reader or MS Word or reader mode in your Safari browser)
  • Use text to speech tools (i.e., the read page tool in the Safari browser on iOS and Mac device)
  • You can apply these hacks to studying or learning about anything. You can also use them for achieving a non-study-related goal, such as a hobby.
  • Most Important Tip: You don’t have to be perfect. As you’ll see in the video, I was supposed to do 4 pomodoros. I only made it through 3 before I started falling asleep! LOL! But I still made progress, and I celebrate that as a win, instead of just not studying at all.

Do you have a study hack you want to share? Use the comments below or send me an email. I am always up for a good hack.

In a nutshell, you can achieve big goals. But, you need to break them into realistic and manageable steps. These steps can be completed over time.

Join The Village to see announcements for upcoming study with me sessions. You don’t have to go after your goals in isolation. I promise you, finding a community that’s a good fit for you will boost your confidence. It will help you learn better and faster. This has actually been studied by researchers… people learn more effectively in groups.
